Useful Training

In my work as energetic osteopath for horses, a holistic approach is of utmost importance to me. The health and keeping it healthy depends on many factors that all need to work together. Feeding, stable management, training, the relationship between horse and human are just a few examples.

Especially the riding horse has to deal with an increased challenge: being ridden. A horse’s body is not made for that task. This, in turn, means that we as riders must do something in order for not to suffer from being ridden. (And that many horses are being harmed by being ridden, simply because they don’t get the proper training, is something I see way too often in my work).

For this reason, I have developed my training for the riding horse. The training is for the horse (physiologically) useful so that it can fulfill its task as riding horse. I call my training “lunging instead of centrifuging” and start with the basics.

Riding horses need correct training in order not to suffer damage.

Lunging instead of centrifuging

I admit, the heading is extreme. However, I just wanted to illustrate what my training is about. Its about learning how to lunge the horse in a healthy and health-promoting way. Mindless running in a small circle with the horse continuously leaning and falling on its inside shoulder, without having the correct bend (centrifuging), has nothing to do with proper horse training. Furthermore, that sort of “training“ is harmful to the horse’s health.

To health!

In my work as energetic osteopath for horses, I see many horses. There, I continuously see horses that have been lunged or should I say centrifuged as described above. I am convinced that every rider only wants the best for his horse. Many just don’t know any better. How would they? No one ever taught them how to correctly and physiologically useful lunge their horses.

Thus, I decided to return to my former profession as horse trainer and once again give private lessons. Nonetheless, my focus will still be my work as energetic osteopath.

Physiologically useful

What to expect: Horse-friendly and physiologically useful training from the ground. The objective is a balanced horse with the correct bend and a free shoulder that can be lunged in all three gaits with subtle communication.

My training is mainly about the communication from trainer to horse (body language and using one’s own energy correctly) Our second objective is the relationship between owner and horse (a polite and respectful interaction). On the side, the horse will learn to use his body more correctly (physiologically useful) and to voluntarily offer that by himself (no matter if its lunged, ridden or worked in hand). Correct lunging is one of many by-products from this training, whereas this is the training’s objective.

I have found an old video (from my time as a horse-trainer) that I would like to share with you. The horse in the video, Stanley, has only been worked in walk and from the ground. He did not only have physical problems, but also a really bad psychological trauma. I feel that the video shows really well how both of these problems have been healed by the training.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. I am looking forward to the two of you!

By the way, in my trainings I strictly reject the usage of aids such as side reins or the like. We will need a long rope (or lunge), a whip, a well-fitting cavesson. If you don’t have this equipment yet, let mem know and I’ll bring it along.
